Welcome to Durant Road Elementary School!  I will celebrate my eight year anniversary as the principal here this October and feel so very fortunate to work with such a wonderful staff, amazing students and supportive parents.  I am a proud UNC Chapel Hill graduate and have worked as a teacher and administrator in the Wake County Public School System since 1981 in various capacities.  My ties to Durant run very deep as all three of my children attended this school during their elementary years and have moved on to graduate from high school and are attending college.

Our school focuses on addressing the learning needs of each student in a challenging and supportive classroom and school environment.  You will find many resources available to you as you utilize the school website.  We appreciate your feedback as we want to make this a tool to support our students, parents and families.

We look forward to an exciting and successful school year.  I invite you to become involved in our PTA as well as a volunteer here at the school if your schedule allows.  Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns.  I want to thank-you for sharing your children with us each day.  You help make Durant Road Elementary a school “where students SOAR.”

Hello Durant Eagles! I’m excited to be back! I've been in education since 2005 and I love working with students and getting a chance to interact with parents and peers. I ventured to Raleigh in 2000 when I started my undergraduate career at Shaw University and graduated in May of 2005 with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education.

Upon graduating college I went on to teach 5th grade at Harris Creek Elementary School, where I worked for the past six and a half years. During which time I was the Student Council advisor and I was also a Mentor with the Helping Hands Mentoring program. It has always been my goal to become a teacher and one day work as a school administrator, so in 2009 I decided to go back to school to receive my Masters in School Administration at North Carolina State University and went on to graduate in May of 2011. During my graduate career I was fortunate enough to intern at Durant Elementary school where I met an amazing administration and staff. Little did I know that I would be fortunate enough to come back to such a great school as an Assistant Principal! I look forward to a very exciting and productive school year and getting to know all of the Durant Family as we work together to inspire our future generation to reach their full potential!

I am thrilled to begin this endeavor as Assistant Principal for such an amazing school.  Education is a passion of mine, and I am glad to enter a new stage within my educational experience.  My career began in Pitt County in 2004 after receiving a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from East Carolina University.  Go Pirates!  Although, I might add that I was an eagle in high school and now returning to that mascot.  So, go Eagles!

After teaching 5th grade for 6 years, I decided that I wanted to broaden my horizons by working with K-5 students.  My love for mathematics education led me into a position as a math coach for a few years and then into math intervention.  I wore many hats while in those positions and became genuinely involved and interested in current educational reform.  As a result, I pursued a Master's degree in School Administration as well as a K-12 Curriculum Specialist license.  Additionally, I have served on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Association for Educators.  I look forward to a new, great beginning.  Together, we will SOAR to great heights!
