About Durant Road Elementary
We are delighted that you are visiting the "Home of the Eagles." Durant Road Elementary operates on a multi-track year-round calendar. Students at the multi-track year-round schools are divided into four groups, called tracks, with each track having its own calendar. In a year-round elementary school, the traditional 180-day school year is divided into nine-week quarters with three week breaks.
Students are in school the same number of days as their counterparts in traditional schools. Their days are simply redistributed throughout the year. The reorganized schedule is called 45/15 - 45 days in school, 15 days off.
Durant provides a more continuous learning process. Since students do not have a long summer vacation, major reviewing in the fall is eliminated. We look forward to working with you and your family!

School Safety Information
Durant Road Elementary School Safety Information In response to parent emails, I would like to share a few things with you regarding our procedures and expectations to keep our school and campus safe.
· Our children and teachers practice monthly fire drills and seasonal severe weather drills. We have had one formal lock down drill this year and will practice another in February. We always practice drills at least twice to ensure that students and teachers on all tracks understand the expectations and are comfortable following them.
· Although our building has many doors, there are only two doors that can be accessed from the outside. These are at the front office entrance and the door to allow the students in the trailers to access entry into the building.
· All classrooms have individual classroom door keys available by the door for the teachers to use to immediately lock the doors should that be necessary.
· All staff and Wake County employees wear photo IDs during the school day.
· All visitors are expected to sign in and obtain a visitor’s badge upon entry. If parents are going to a trailer classroom, they should park in the front parking lot, enter through the front door and sign in for a badge. Parents and other visitors will be redirected to the front office if they do not have a visitor’s badge.
· Teachers in the trailers have been asked to designate one door as the main entry/exit door for the classroom. (some of the trailers have two doors) The secondary door will remain locked from the outside at all times.
· Parents need to use the established carpool area designated at the front of the school. If the chain is already up, please proceed through the carpool line to access the parking lot. Our bus lot area, Open Door Church lot and Deerland Grove Rd. in Hunter’s Knoll should not be used as a drop off or pick up site for our students. There is no supervision provided in these areas for this purpose.
